President, Fares Surgical Associates
Dr. Fares is Chairman of the Department of Surgery at St Francis Medical Center and President of Fares Surgical Asoociates. He is a Board Certified General Surgeon and also performs Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery which he pioneered at St Francis.
Dr Fares obtained his Undergraduate degree from St Joseph's College ( now University) in Philadelphia. He went on to pursue Graduate studies at Rutgers University before entering Medical School. He later received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Santo Tomas Medical School in the Philippines where he graduated "cum meritus". Dr. Fares started his surgical career at St Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. There, he was fortunate to train with some excellent surgeons notably the inventor of the Lap-Band system, Dr. Lubomyr Kuzmak. After completing his surgical residency, he went on to private practice and became
President of Fares Surgical Associates.
Dr Fares is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and also a Fellow of several prestigious societies such as the Southeastern Surgical Congress and the Society of Surgeons of New Jersey. He is also a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Society
of General Surgeons (ASGS), and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS).
Dr Fares has held several key teaching positions and was the Program Director
of the Surgical Residency before accepting the position of Chairman of the Department. He currently holds leadership positions in most local societies and was most currently President of the Society of Surgeons of New Jersey .
He holds professional licensure in the State of New Jersey since 1981. |
